Chandigarh

A city and a Union territory which is the capital of the two Indian states of Haryana and Punjab but it is governed directly by the Union Government. Chandigarh is internationally known for its architecture and urban design. It was designed by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier, which changed from earlier plans created by the Polish architect Maciej Nowicki and the American planner Albert Mayer. Most of the government buildings and housing in the city, were designed by the Chandigarh Capital Project Team headed by Le Corbusier, Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry. In 2015, an article published by BBC named Chandigarh as one of the perfect cities of the world in terms of architecture, cultural growth and modernization. In July 2016 Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex was declared as World Heritage by UNESCO. It is one of the cleanest city in India having the highest per capita income.

Chandigarh’s culture is a mixture of different cultures within the country. It is a fact that Chandigarh has attracted people from nearly all parts of the country.   • Rose Garden: One of the most beautiful spot for the nature lovers. Around 1,000 varieties of rose blossom every year in this garden. It is located at 16 sector of Chandigarh. The garden is packed with some exquisite variety of flowers making it quite popular among tourists and nature enthusiasts.
  • Rock Garden: Situated opposite the Capitol Complex it is one of the most popular tourist spots. It is spread across a area of 64 acres.. The Rock Garden has been designed as an open air exhibition hall using urban and industrial wastes by Nek Chand, a former Road Inspector in Chandigarh.
  • Sukhna Lake: Situated at the foothills of Shivaliks, Sukhna Lake is a beautiful lake set between the scenic surroundings. Quite popular among the locals and visitors, the place is a perfect destination for solitude seekers.
  • Fun City: It is one of the biggest amusement park in North India spread across a area of 43 acres. It comprises of one activity pool, three landing pools and a wave pool, a cluster of water slides of various shapes and sizes, which makes for a delightful ride for the water lovers.
  • Terraced Garden: Illuminated musical fountain and the well planned orchard makes this 10 acre spread in Sector 33 an ideal picnic spot. The annual Chrysanthemum show in December is a major attraction here.
  • Government Museum and Art Gallery: The Government Museum and Art Gallery situated in sector 10 is one of the country’s finest collection of Gandharan sculpture. It was built in August 1947, the building was designed by the very noted architect, Le Corbusier.
  • International Dolls Museum: Founded in the year 1985 by the Indian Council of Child Welfare, the museum contains a wide collection of fascinating dolls and marionettes brought from countries like Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, Korea, and Russia that stand beside the huge Indian collection.
  • Nangal Wetlands : Nangal is a beautiful small town situated at a distance of 100km from Chandigarh in Punjab. The wetland is bounded by Sutlej River, canals and magnificent hills. The Nangal lake is a beautiful artificial lake which is 6 Km long shaped by the Nangal dam. About 40,000 migratory birds fly here in winters and this lake is a heavenly paradise for bird lovers.
  • Thunderzone: An amusement park situated at a distance of 13 km from the city centre. Thunderzone offers extensive range of exciting rides like Swinging Chairs, Octopus, Cater Pillar, Mono Junction, Columbus, Sun N Moon, Striking Cars, Baby Train, Splash, COBF Music Bob, and Wet Park. The park is quite popular with residents and visitors alike.
  • Pinjore Gardens: It is situated at a distance of 14 km from the city centre. It is also known as Yadvinder Garden, and Spread over a massive area of 100 acres. The work of creating the gardens began in the seventeenth century. Covering a total area of 100 acres, the Chandigarh Pinjore Garden serves as the venue of the annual event of mango festival during Baisakhi (April to June). The garden houses a mini zoo, historic places, Japanese garden, nursery and a number of picnic spots. According to the Hindu mythology, it is said that it is over here that Pandava brothers have rested during their exile.
