Gokarna is a small town located in Kumta district of Karnataka. It is known as a temple town famous for Shiva temple known as Mahabaleshwar and is considered very holy among the Hindus. Gokarna literally means Cow’s Ears, as per legends Shiva emerged from the ears of a cow name the pace same. Gokarna recently has become famous for beaches because they are untouched and laidback. Historically it was ruled by Vijayanagar Empire followed by Portuguese who expanded from Goa along the coastline. Apart from Mahabaleshwar Temple there are many other famous temples in this little town namely Maha Ganapathi Temple, Uma Maheshwara Temple, Bhadrakali Temple, Tamra Gauri Temple among the others. There are many pristine and laid back beaches with beautiful scenery of West Ghats some of the beaches in the town are Kudle beach, Om beach and Paradise Beach. 

Main Attractions
  • Gokarnaa Beach, Gokarna: Gokarna Beach is one of the prime tourist attractions of the town. It is one of quietest and beautiful beach of this town. It is the non-commercialized beach. It is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains on one side and Arabian Sea on the other side. One can enjoy sea bath, guitars, drums and hammocks.
  • Om Beach, Gokarna: Om Beach is one of the major tourist attractions and a prominent spiritual place of this region. It is one of the most splendid beach looks like “Om” the auspicious Hindu symbol. The beach is situated at about 7 km away from Gokarna. At the beach one can enjoy the various water sports activities such as jet skiing, surfing and banana boat etc. in addition.
  • Kudle Beach, Gokarna: Situated at the distance at about 6kms the town of Gokarna, Kudle Beach is one of the most beautiful beach lies in the Uttara Kannada District. There are various small huts and cafes are located here.
  • Mahabaleshwar Temple, Gokarna:  It is one of the most prominent religious pilgrimage destinations for Hindus as it is considered as one of the second Kashi Vishwanath temple of Varanasi. The temple is located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It is Dravidian architectural style temple, which is dedicated to Lard Shiva.  The Shiva Linga in the temple is often called as “Atmalinga”. As per Hindu mythology this it was given to Ravan by Lord Shiva.
  • Paradise Beach, Gokarna: Often known as Full Moon Beach, it is one of the tranquil and beautiful beaches in Karnataka. One can reach at this beach through sea by boat or by trekking through forest. Tourists visiting this calm and quiet beach can only enjoy swimming here.
